XCSoar

The XCSoar Software

Clearly to make XCSoar work in VR you need the software. If you don't have it already it may take a little effort to get to grips with, but XCSoar is definitely worthwhile.

You can get it from http://xcsoar.org .

The user manual is available there, and there is much guidance elsewhere about how to set it up and use it.

And of course it needs linking to Condor. The Condor manual has a description of how to link Condor 2 and XCSoar in 'Appendix 5 - External PDA', see www.condorsoaring.com/manual_en/ .

A 'Virtual Serial Port' is required to communicate between the two applications. The Condor manual refers to the 'HW VSP'; an alternative is 'VSPE'. All we need is a simple connection on the same PC.

To enable the use of button controls on your joystick to directly input changes of your MacCready settings to XCSoar, a small configuration file needs to be added to your XCSoar setup.

Copy the file below to your 'XCSoarData' folder.

Then, with with XCSoar open, use the mouse to select the following:

  • Double click on the main screen, then select:

  • Config

  • System

  • Look

  • Language, Input

  • Events -> Select, then select 'xcscontrols1.xci'

Then restart XCSoar to complete the configuration.

You can get the file here: xcscontrols1.xci
