Welcome to the DS6504 Business Intelligence and Big Data!
This course is offered by School of Innovation, Design and Technology, Whitireia and Weltec, one of New Zealand's oldest tertiary education institutions which always focuses on teaching real skills.
Business intelligence (BI) are processes, technologies and tools needed to turn data into meaningful information that can be used by organisations to drive profitable business actions.
Big data is a field that examines ways to deal with data sets that are too large or complex to be dealt with by traditional data management tools and data processing applications.
Business intelligence (BI) are processes, technologies and tools needed to turn data into meaningful information that can be used by organisations to drive profitable business actions.
In this course, students will be introduced to the whole picture of Business Intelligence, including how data are collected from sources, processed, stored, analysed and distributed to generate business intelligence. You will learn to use and master SQL - a language for you to communicate with databases and manage data. You will learn the principles and rules of designing dashboards, and excitedly, you will design your own dashboards. You will also be introduced to data warehouse and its components. You will design a data warehouse and perform multiple operations on it. Finally, you will be familiarised with big data, Hadoop, HDFS and MapReduce.
With DS6504, "you will see yourself begin with SELECT * and finish this course deploying a dashboard that changes according to the input parameters" - like what my students have written in the Feedback page. How exciting!
