Course policy
Coursework and grading: There will be two exams, one during midterm and one final exam on the Institute-scheduled date. In addition there will be homework assignments (can include small quizzes / written / programming assignments) and a final course project. The final project can be selected from a list of projects that will be provided in a few weeks. The projects will include self-study of a topic connected to the course syllabus, will involve reviewing a few research papers, and implementing/testing algorithms. Deliverables will include a short (4-5 page) research-style paper describing the work you’ve done, empirical analysis on real data using your own code or existing software. Each student will give a presentation which will be followed by Q&A from the audience. Each project can be done by either a single student or a group of two students. Weightage of each component in the course will be assigned as following:
4 Homeworks : 20%
Midterm written exam: 25%
Project: 25%
Final written exam: 30%
Academic integrity: Any assignment, project or exam you complete in this course is expected to be your own work.
Homeworks: You should attempt homework questions on your own, but are allowed to verbally discuss concepts with your peers. However, the solutions must be written in your own words. The same rule applies to programming assignments.
