The Words

Inspirational words in the Underpass

Inspirational words chosen by students from Bellarine Secondary College with mosiac inserts by Glass Artist, Diane Schofield.

"Locals using the pedestrian underpass built as part of the biggest road infrastructure project on the Bellarine Peninsula – the Drysdale Bypass – will be now treated to a touch of art on their travels.

A series of mosaic glass art letters created by a local artist Diane Schofield have been etched into the underpass walls – with a series of inspirational words, including ‘dream’, ‘inspire’ and ‘believe and achieve’ which were selected by school students on the Bellarine Peninsula.

The $117 million Drysdale Bypass - which stretches 6 kilometres from Jetty Road to the north of Whitcombes Road – has significantly reduced traffic congestion through the centre of Drysdale and has delivered safer, more efficient journeys for motorists on the Bellarine Peninsula.

It’s also reduced traffic on the township’s High Street by close to 50 per cent and improved travel for pedestrians and cyclists after opening in June 2020.

The installation of the glass art letters is the finishing touch on the Drysdale pedestrian underpass and comes as part of the annual Festival of Glass event – which is held in January, February and March in Drysdale and other townships of the Northern Bellarine. The event is supported by a range of local businesses and community groups." (From the Press Release, 4 April The Hon Lisa Neville MP, State Member for Bellarine.
