ear acupuncture is a gentle yet powerful, traditional yet modern therapy for your nervous system.
offerings are in-person only and include both personalized appointments and community events.
find a comfortable position sitting or lying down, along with any items you might want to accompany you during your treatment, such a pillow and blanket, pen and paper, herbal tea, a book, aromatherapy, music, etc.
an alcohol pad will be used to clean the surfaces of both ears.
as acupuncture needles are placed, you may feel a slight pinch which should quickly recede to a dull ache. if there are any intolerable discomforts, needles can be adjusted, removed, or replaced with acupressure beads.
as your energy | qi | 气 begins to flow, notice any changes in your mind, body, and spirit, however small. where do you feel it? what shape, color, texture is it? that is healing happening.
at the end of the session, the needles will be removed.
this therapy is based on the national acudetox association protocol which blends the power of neuroscience, the wisdom of traditional chinese medicine, and the love that fuels justice.
in fact, this therapy was widely used in the 1980s bronx, new york by leaders of the black panthers and the young lords to treat opioid use disorder in their communities. this story is captured in the VICE documentary dope is death.
this therapy has also been used in the field during natural disasters and war.
research on the protocol has demonstrated benefits including stress reduction, improved sleep, decreased pain, mental wellness, and trauma healing.
in short, this protocol has been shown to bring an overactive or underactive nervous system back into balance, where one feels safe in their body.
furthermore, doing this treatment in a group setting creates opportunity for nervous system co-regulation, helping us heal through community.
