About Dr. Upendra Kumar

I am currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Science at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. My research focuses broadly on both computational and experimental condensed matter physics, as well as materials science. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Physics with honors and a master’s degree in Solid State Physics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, completed in 2012 and 2014, respectively. I later pursued my Ph.D. in Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, which I completed in April 2019, specializing in Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) oxides and perovskite oxide materials. Before joining IIIT Allahabad, I served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Science at Banasthali Vidyapith (Deemed University) for two years. Alongside my teaching and research roles at Banasthali, I actively contributed to administrative responsibilities, including coordinating the university’s NAAC accreditation and quality assurance initiatives. My research there extended to ferrites, energy harvesters, and energy storage technologies such as Li-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and solid oxide fuel cells. Currently, 5 Ph.D. students are working under my supervision, and 2 have been awarded their doctoral degrees. I am honored to be elected as a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), recognized as a Senior Member of IEEE, and to be listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Elsevier and Stanford University. 

My work has been published in prestigious international Physics, Ceramics and Materials Science journals, and I have presented at numerous scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops. Over the course of my career, I have received several national and international awards for my contributions to electroceramics and materials science. Additionally, I am actively engaged in various national committees, professional bodies, and associations, further advancing the field.
