Why-man is depicted as an extremely gaunt, skull-like face with hollow eye sockets and a very small, almost cut-off nose. They've got two layers of teeth, with the outer/top layer looking similar to a child's teeth x-ray. They're always depicted with heavy vertical hatching, making them appear as a grainy television image. Their hand is also shown to be very long and bony, with equally long, unkempt black nails.
Why-man's true appearance is that of the petrification devices themselves. As a group, they can act in unison and are capable of assuming any form. Following its species' departure from the Moon, the sole petrification device that remained on Earth inherits the name "Why-man".
Why-man's personality has been difficult to decipher, as they rarely communicate and act in a threatening manner, attempting to petrify the world many times over. Gen further noted, analyzing Why-man's behavior, that it must be an entity with a will of its own, who considers itself far superior to the Kingdom of Science, dismissing any attempts at communication while refraining from full-scale retaliation. The Kingdom of Science later uncovered that the entity communicating with them was in fact part of a swarm of petrification devices alien technology of advanced design imbued with artificial intelligence, making each a mechanical lifeform. Following this revelation, the entities confirmed that, like any other lifeform, they prioritize survival above all else. They are, however, unable to reproduce on their own, and are reliant on intelligent species to study and replicate them, which is achieved through a parasitic process. Why-man has also been shown to be curious, asking questions when they do not understand, and willing to negotiate with their chosen target.
