Dr. Donghoon Shin is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Aritificial Intelligence Engineering at Korea Maritime & Ocean University(KMOU). He directs the interdisciplinary research lab RiMS (Research in Intelligent Mobility Systems) at KMOU, working on integrating the "human-centered" topic with "control" systems aspects using AI in Robotics, Mobility Dynamics, and Autonomous Driving Systems. He is also a vice president of the Korea Auto Vehicle Safety Association (KASA) and used to be a vice president of IEEE Seoul Chapter. Prior to this, he was an Associate Reseaerch Professor at the Future Mobility Technology Center at Seoul National University, an Assistant Professor at Sookmyung Women’s University, and Korea Naval Academy. He received his Ph.D. in 2017 from Seoul National University. He is currently serving as the Editor in Chief (EIC) for Journal of Korea Auto Vehicle Safety Association. His core research interests are in Automated Driving Vehicle, Control Systems (AI-Powered Hybrid Control, Steering Torque Feedback Control, Vehicle Control for Ultimate Ride & Handling Performance), Machine Learning, 4D Radar Target Perception, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems(ADAS) considering human factors, and socially aware motion planning for mobile robot. He has advised and co-advised multiple M.S. and Ph.D. students. He has authored over 50+ papers, 190+ citations and his work has won multiple awards at top Control Systems/Vehicle/Transportation Systems conferences, and Autonomous Vehicle Competitions two years in a row. Recently he has been proudly awarded “Young Scientist Award '' from the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA). His research involves novel combinations of methods and collaborations in control systems, machine learning, human factor research, vehicle testing and physically-based simulation to develop real-time computational models to learn human behaviors. Dr. Shin has been actively working with many research labs, including Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai Motor Company, National Research Foundation (NRF), and the Ministry of Korea National Defense. Dr. Shin's research has been featured on KBS, Chosun, Chungang, Maeil Economics, Hankyoreh etc.
