I am Professor of Geography & Global Development at the University of Bristol. My current research explores the causes and consequences of global urbanization, the political economy of urban governance, and sustainable city futures. I completed bachelors degrees in economics and literature at the University of California Santa Cruz, and MSc and PhD degrees in the Department of International Development at the London School of Economics. I am co-author of the book Cities and Development (Routledge 2016) and am currently writing a macrohistory of global urbanization for Princeton UP titled How we became urban: A natural history of human congregation.
