Smart Diagnostics & Point-of-Care Technologies
Dr. Sasya Madhurantakam is a Research Scientist in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Dallas. She completed her JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship at Osaka University in Japan. Her interdisciplinary research integrates biomedical engineering, electrochemistry, and translational research to develop cutting-edge electrochemical biosensors for point-of-care diagnostics in fields such as infectious diseases, metabolic disorders, and inflammatory conditions. She was awarded the Karnataka DST Nano fellowship in 2017, the Metrohm India-IIT Bombay Young Chemist Award in 2019, and the Baxter Young Investigator Award in 2022. She has developed several types of advanced electrochemical biosensors and has published more than 25 articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
Dr. Madhurantakam’s current research centers on the development and analytical validation of electrochemical sensing platforms for the quantitative detection of biologically and chemically relevant markers. Her work emphasizes the design of nanostructured interfaces, immunoassay optimization, biofluid analysis, and statistical process modeling to enhance analytical sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility, and robustness. She has extensive experience in method development, calibration modeling, interference studies, and validation under controlled laboratory conditions, enabling the translation of laboratory innovations into reliable analytical tools.
Her expertise spans nanomaterial synthesis, surface functionalization, electrochemical impedance and amperometric techniques, liquid automation workflows, and multiparametric data analysis. These competencies are directly applicable to analytical chemistry challenges in rapid chemical screening, where precision, reproducibility, and matrix compatibility are critical.
In addition to her research, Dr. Madhurantakam is a committed educator and mentor, having supervised and trained over 20 undergraduate and graduate students in analytical instrumentation, assay development, and quantitative data interpretation. Many of her mentees have earned competitive research fellowships and academic honors.
Her long-term goal is to establish an interdisciplinary analytical research program that integrates advanced materials, sensor technologies, and data-driven modeling to develop robust, multiplexed analytical platforms for forensic, environmental, and biomedical applications.
