Physician and Founder of The Seekers Centre
Ottawa, Canada
With experience in both traditional Western medicine and alternative forms of healing, Dr. Richard Nahas runs an integrative medical practice that focuses on treating chronic pain and healing the brain.
After Dr. Nahas earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1998, he worked for four years in emergency rooms in academic teaching hospitals and remote rural outposts across Canada.
He became interested in studying other forms of healing during the SARS outbreak of 2003, and decided to seek out treatments that help the body heal itself.
To accomplish this, Dr. Nahas spent two years backpacking in 30 countries, gaining other perspectives on illness and healing from shamans, gurus, healers and traditional doctors across the globe.
When he returned to Ottawa, Dr. Nahas established The Seekers Centre in 2006 to address the root causes of chronic pain with a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals.
He helps patients manage their symptoms with a combination of prescription drugs, injection and IV infusion treatments, as well as mindfulness, breathing, myofascial manual therapy, acupuncture, natural health products and other specialized treatments.
Dr. Nahas promotes an evidence-based approach to integrative medicine at the University of Ottawa, where he developed an undergraduate curriculum for medical students. He has also published journal articles and textbook chapters, and contributed to national guidelines and multinational clinical trials.
Dr. Richard Nahas was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa and has served as Chair of the Medical Interest Group for Complementary and Integrative Medicine at the Ontario Medical Association.
