Respiratory diseases can affect the airways, lung tissue or the body's ability to exchange oxygen. Some conditions develop suddenly, while others may require long-term care. Identifying the cause of symptoms is important because different lung diseases may need different treatments.
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that can cause wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and breathlessness. Symptoms may occur occasionally or become more frequent due to triggers such as dust, pollution, pollen, weather changes, exercise or respiratory infections.
A medical assessment can help identify possible triggers and determine whether lung function testing is needed. Treatment may include prescribed inhalers, trigger management, regular monitoring and an action plan based on the patient's condition.
Patients looking for an TB Specialist in Thane may seek consultation when symptoms recur, disturb sleep, limit daily activities or remain difficult to control.
COPD is a long-term lung condition that can restrict airflow and make breathing difficult. Common symptoms include persistent cough, mucus production, wheezing and shortness of breath.
Assessment may involve a medical history, physical examination and pulmonary function testing. Management depends on the severity of the disease and may include prescribed medicines, smoking cessation support, vaccinations where appropriate, breathing exercises and pulmonary rehabilitation.
People with COPD may need regular follow-up to monitor symptoms and lung function.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by bacteria. It most commonly affects the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body. Symptoms of pulmonary TB may include a prolonged cough, fever, night sweats, weight loss, fatigue or coughing up blood.
MDR-TB and XDR-TB involve forms of tuberculosis with resistance to multiple medicines. Their diagnosis and treatment require appropriate testing, specialist supervision and adherence to the prescribed treatment plan.
Dr. Sanglikar's areas of specialisation include pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB, MDR-TB and XDR-TB. Patients with suspected TB symptoms or a previous TB diagnosis may require medical assessment and appropriate investigations.
Pneumonia is an infection that affects the lungs and may cause fever, cough, chest discomfort, weakness and difficulty breathing. The severity can vary depending on the cause, the patient's age and other health conditions.
A doctor may recommend examinations, imaging or laboratory tests depending on the symptoms. Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the infection.
Breathing difficulty, worsening symptoms, confusion or other signs of serious illness require urgent medical attention.
Interstitial lung disease describes a group of conditions that affect the tissue around the air sacs in the lungs. Some patients experience a persistent dry cough, breathlessness or reduced ability to exercise.
Diagnosis may involve lung function testing, chest imaging and additional investigations. Management depends on the specific type of ILD, the extent of lung involvement and the patient's overall health.
Specialist follow-up can help monitor changes in symptoms and lung function over time.
Persistent respiratory symptoms or abnormal chest imaging may sometimes require further investigation for lung cancer or another lung condition.
Depending on the clinical findings, evaluation may involve imaging, bronchoscopy, tissue sampling or other tests. Not every persistent cough indicates cancer, but unexplained symptoms should be assessed rather than ignored.
Dr. Sanglikar's listed areas of practice include lung cancer evaluation and bronchoscopy for diagnostic purposes.
Some respiratory conditions can become serious and require close monitoring or hospital-based treatment. Severe pneumonia, significant breathing difficulty and complications of chronic lung disease may need urgent medical care.
Critical care management depends on the patient's condition and may involve oxygen support, monitoring and other treatments selected by the treating team.

Patients searching for a Chest Physician in Thane can seek specialist evaluation for persistent cough, breathing difficulty, recurrent respiratory infections and other lung-related concerns.
Respiratory symptoms can have several possible causes. For example, cough may be associated with asthma, COPD, an infection, TB or another lung condition. Breathlessness may also result from conditions outside the respiratory system.
A detailed assessment helps the doctor decide which investigations are appropriate. Depending on the patient's symptoms, these may include chest imaging, lung function testing, sputum testing, bronchoscopy or other diagnostic procedures.
Dr. Sanglikar's background includes postgraduate training in chest medicine, teaching experience and academic contributions to respiratory medicine.
