Bio
Dr. Purnima K. Chowdhury is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Transport Planning at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Bhopal. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, where her research focused on transport behavior and urban mobility in developing contexts. She completed her Master of Planning in Urban and Regional Planning (2017–2019) from SPA Bhopal, where she was awarded the Best Master’s Thesis Award. Her work is published in WCTR conference, Montreal. She has earned her Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Patna. Dr. Chowdhury presented her two doctoral research papers at the 13th Asia-Pacific Conference on Transportation and the Environment (APTE), hosted by the National University of Singapore, Dept of Civil Engineering. Her extended doctoral work explored the social acceptability of autonomous vehicles in India, particularly from the perspective of users who are personally chauffeured. She highlighted that such users may perceive risk, ease of use, and usefulness differently from users in developed countries, where the practice of employing personal chauffeurs is uncommon. She was actively involved in submitting project proposals as team member. Currently, she is working on the AMRUT 2.0 Mission, where she is the Co-PI for the assessment of the Livability Index across 34 cities in Madhya Pradesh. She has supervised five master thesis students. Her academic interests span transport cost and economics, data-driven decision-making, mobilities research, choice modelling, transport inequalities, travel behavior in the Global South. She is interested in mixed method research, computational methods.Journal Publications
