General Ideas Based on the Novel Study

1. Create a song/dance or use an already published example.
2. Create a game. Ideas include but are not limited to the following: UNO, baseball, Minecraft, Cup Pong, Heads Up, Escape Room/Breakout, etc.
3. Create a model. Think landforms, locations, settings, events, significant items.
4. Create and publish a Podcast
5. Write a script for a play, scene, monologue
6. Write poetry, letters/diary entries, etc.
7. Food/recipes- make a dish relevant to our story or geography and explain its relevance
8. Create a movie based on one of the topics

Puppetry

Creating puppets from items a student has a home and writing a script based on a scene from the novel was used for the creation of the video. Also, having a younger sibling or family member play a role invites further creation and understanding.

Diary Entry- Personal Reflection

Cairo, Egypt - Early 2013

We don’t know what “fair” is anymore. It seemed bad at first but had gotten worse by the day. The bombing in the streets, the threats, the dangerous protests. It seems like it’s been forever. Like we’ve all forgotten what “normal” was. This is the new normal, as hard as it is to admit, we must. My family is considering leaving; It will be better, safer in America. I’m married with 2 kids, A 9-year-old boy, and a 6-year-old girl. I want better for them, opportunities, better lives, education. It is a long journey I know, but I'm sure it will be worth it. We have agreed as a family and will be seeking asylum. I pray it will work. You can’t even go out in the street without the fear of being threatened, or worse, taken and held hostage. I don’t want that for my kids. I want them to grow up in a world where they don’t have to be afraid of what’s outside, instead not wanting to leave. I imagine them to play outside, while we have to ask for them to come back in, to do their homework. I want the best for them, for us. I don’t want to believe it will always be this way, with terrorism and protests always out there. I want good for my country, my home, but I don’t control what happens.
