Throughout my 14-year career at IIT Kharagpur, I have dedicated myself to advancing the fields of aerodynamics and gas dynamics through rigorous research and impactful teaching. My tenure at this prestigious institution has been marked by numerous initiatives that have significantly enhanced our understanding and application of these complex subjects. A key achievement during this period has been the establishment of the Supersonic Jet Research Laboratory (SJRL), which has become a vital hub for cutting-edge research. Under my leadership, the lab has completed several sponsored projects, reflecting our commitment to tackling real-world challenges. In addition to leading research efforts, I have actively engaged with funding agencies to secure resources for further research by submitting numerous proposals. As an educator, I have authored five textbooks designed to enhance the learning experiences of engineering students. These texts cover essential topics within the discipline, offering comprehensive resources that connect theoretical concepts with practical applications. I am currently writing three more textbooks, underscoring my ongoing commitment to producing high-quality educational materials that align with evolving industry standards. A significant milestone in my publishing journey occurred in 2016 when the Defense Minister of India recognized my book, "The Essence of Aircraft Armaments," published by Springer Nature. This recognition highlighted the value of my contributions to the field, making me a vital resource for students and professionals alike. To further enrich the academic experience at IIT Kharagpur, I have developed two innovative courses that enhance students' understanding and application of experimental techniques. These courses emphasize hands-on learning, encouraging students to engage actively with the material and develop their problem-solving skills. By fostering a creative and inquisitive environment, I aim to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing technological landscape.
My research primarily focuses on shock-boundary layer interactions in supersonic and hypersonic flows, which are crucial for advancing aerospace technology. A deep understanding of these interactions is essential for designing and optimizing high-speed vehicles. Through meticulous research and experimentation, I have made significant strides in this field, contributing to both theoretical knowledge and practical applications. My efforts have not only advanced the scientific community's understanding of these complex interactions but have also enhanced the overall mission of IIT Kharagpur. Overall, my tenure at IIT Kharagpur has been characterized as highly beneficial in both research and education. From establishing the SJRL to authoring textbooks and developing innovative courses, the initiatives I have undertaken have significantly contributed to our organization's growth and the academic development of my students. As I embrace new challenges, I remain committed to advancing aerodynamics and gas dynamics for the benefit of future generations.
My research lie in the areas of supersonic and hypersonic aerodynamics. I actively work in the field of
Shock-Wave/Boundary-Layer Interactions
Supersonic Jet Control and Acoustics
where investigation of flow control is the prime focus. I have established a Supersonic Jet Research Laboratory (SJRL) at IIT Kharagpur to solve real-life problems related to high-speed aerodynamics. To achieve the above ideals, I believe in teamwork where students play a crucial role. I always present a research problem, keeping the students' interests in mind to foster their innovative thinking and career growth.
