STUDENTS TRYING TO ADD: Fill out this form to get updates on the course!
Welcome to Dr. Meyer Joiner's Intercession Landing Page ( where you can get resources when the Canvas shell is not active, or you have not yet added)
Are you a future Organic 2 student? Here are some things you can do now to prepare for the upcoming (busy) semester:
During a school break, I suggest that students preparing to take Organic 2 in the following semester use my Welcome Packet to help them retain their understanding of the material.
Once you feel confident with your foundation, it may pay to get ahead by downloading the course guide, which contains images and partially filled out notes. You will need this file for the lectures . You will need to submit the course guide to your nearest copy center like Staples to print and bind. This should cost no more than $40 . Alternatively, you may load the PDF in a tablet using a program that allows you to write and save the notes (Goodnotes recommended). The sooner you get the course guide in your hands, the smoother the class will go for you. You need to bring it with you to every Lab and Lecture.
Course Materials (disclaimer: these are not set in stone yet, but feel free to shop around starting now to find a good deal - if you took 211 with me, the only items you will need are 212 Course Guide and the 2nd semester version of the "Organic Chemistry as a Second Language" book):
Lab Coat (100% Cotton and Flame Resistant) (example)
Laboratory Notebook (Example)
Safety Goggles (Example)
Nitrile Gloves - pick your own size. You will not nee an entire box, so you may share it with other students. (Example)
Spartan Student (link sent on first day with discount code or welcome email - unless you have it from last semester)
Meyer Joiner, C.D. Chemistry 212 Course Reader and Lab Manual (link: course guide )(PDF also to be posted to Canvas shell - free to download, but it is worth paying for a bound copy to be sent to a copy center like STAPLES or use an iPad Pro to write everything out)
Official ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide (for the final exam)
Klein, David R. Organic Chemistry. 4th ed., John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2020. Example links: ISBN =978-1119659594 (Loose leaf hard copy). The e-book is also acceptable. No code for Wiley Plus needed, we don't use that system for online problems. Also note that the 1st and 2nd editions are not recommended. The 4th edition, however, is acceptable, but likely more expensive.
