Professor, teaching Organic Chemistry lecture and laboratory course
After earning my PhD from UCLA (2007) in Organic Chemistry (under the tutelage of Sir Fraser Stoddart, Nobel Laureate 2016), I started my full-time teaching career teaching at Los Angeles Pierce College. I am passionate about active learning pedagogies, finding ways to help students get more hands-on instrumentation time in the lab and in our instrument room. I love reading more about the historical pioneers of organic chemistry, up-and coming active-learning pedagogies, research advances in supramolecular, polymer, and COF/MOF chemistry, and finding ways to share these passions with my students. When possible, I also participate in outreach activities with all age groups. I currently serve as a volunteer for the ACS Science Coach program. Outside of the lab, I enjoy family time out on the trails (via bike, hike, horse, or running), gardening with our tortoises, gaming (board and video), and of course, kitchen chemistry (baking/canning/fermenting/etc.).
