Bio

Christina Lux was born in Pasadena, California and lived in Planada, California for several years before moving to Texas, then Québec, followed by 5 years in Cameroon, where she lived in both Bui and Yaoundé and then returned to the U.S. for university studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Oregon and a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from Cornell University. Her training includes Certificates in Conflict Analysis, Negotiation, and Mediating Violent Conflict from the United States Institute of Peace.  Her ongoing research has appeared in journals such as the Journal of Transnational American Studies, the International Journal of Francophone Studies, and BioScience. She served as a short-term Cultural Envoy to Brazzaville where she conducted creative writing workshops with youth who had survived the civil war. She is a poet and her book, War Bonds, will be published March 1, 2024; her poetry has also appeared on National Public Radio, in the Houston Chronicle, and in textbooks by Oxford University Press. She was previously Assistant Director of the Kansas African Studies Center at the University of Kansas and currently serves as Managing Director of the Center for the Humanities at the University of California, Merced. Bilingual in English and French, she also understands Pidgin and Spanish. She is on the Fulbright Specialist Roster until 2025 and able to work on short-term projects internationally.
