Good posture is important because it keeps our bodies aligned. This enables the muscles, bones, and joints to work together optimally, reducing strain and promoting proper function of the body.
Here are some simple tips to maintain good posture while at work:
👨🏻💻Sit up straight: Make sure to sit with your back straight against the chair. Avoid slouching or leaning forward too much.
👩🏻💻Ergonomic chair: Choose a chair that supports your lower back well. Adjust the height of the chair so that your feet can touch the ground comfortably, and your knees are at the same level or slightly lower than your hips.
👨🏻💻Position of screen, keyboard & mouse: Keep your computer screen at eye level and make sure your keyboard and mouse are within easy reach.
👩🏻💻Take breaks and move around: Sitting for a long time can make your body stiff and affect your posture. Take short breaks every 30 minutes or so to stand up, stretch, and walk around. This helps relax your muscles and improve blood flow.
👨🏻💻Engage your core muscles: To do this, gently pull your belly button towards your spine while sitting. This helps stabilize your spine and keeps you in the right alignment.
👩🏻💻Avoid crossing your legs: Crossing your legs can affect your posture and put strain on your hips and lower back. Keep both feet flat on the ground or use a footrest if needed.
👨🏻💻Self reminder: Throughout the day, remind yourself to check your posture. It's easy to forget and slouch without realizing it. Make an effort to sit up straight and keep your body aligned.
Remember, by prioritizing good posture, we can enjoy improved comfort, better physical health, and increased vitality in our daily lives.
Embrace good posture for a healthier you!
Hey everyone! We all want to stay safe and independent as we age, and preventing falls is a big part of that. Falls can be serious, but the good news is that there are simple steps we can take to reduce the risk. Check out these tips for fall prevention and let's stay safe and active together!
🦴 Stay physically active: Exercise can help improve strength and balance, reducing the risk of falls.
🦴 Remove tripping hazards: Keep floors clear of clutter and secure loose rugs to avoid tripping.
🦴 Wear appropriate footwear: Choose shoes with good support and non-slip soles to prevent slipping.
🦴 Review medications: Some medications can cause dizziness or affect balance, so talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
🦴 Use assistive devices: If you have difficulty with balance or mobility, consider using a cane, walker, or other device to reduce the risk of falls.
If you have concerns about fall prevention, be sure to talk to your doctor or healthcare provider for more information and guidance.

Osteoarthritis (OA) happens when the joints in your body become inflamed and damaged. Also known as the “wear-and-tear” arthritis, this condition more commonly affects women than men. It can develop at any age, but it is more common in people aged over 40 years or in those who have previously injured a joint.
There is no single cause for OA. However, certain conditions put you more at risk of developing OA in some joints, which includes:
🦴 Being overweight
🦴 Previous injury to the joint
🦴 Frequent kneeling, climbing and squatting
🦴 Frequent heavy lifting
Below is a simple video that shows some of the potential red flags that you should look out for OA. Always remember, if you have frequent pain and swelling around your joints, please book an appointment with you doctor immediately.
You may have heard about the glycemic index when you’re planning your diet and wonder what do all these values mean.
These values, the GI scores, which ranks from 1 to 100 are assigned to food based on how quickly it affects your blood sugar when it is eaten on its own.
Carbohydrates that break down quickly during digestion have the highest GI scores resulting in rapid hike in blood sugar level. On the other hand, carbohydrates that break down slowly will release glucose gradually into the bloodstream. These foods have low GI scores. In general, foods with a low index are preferable.
How do we read GI scores? It’s simple! The smaller the number, the less impact the food has on your blood sugar:
🍎 55 or less = Low (good)
🍌 56- 69 = Medium
🍰 70 or higher = High (bad)
If you’re planning to control your blood sugar or simply starting to eat healthy, below are our top 6 picks of low-GI foods!
However, it is also important to eat a healthy, balanced diet that is low in fat, sugar and salt, and high in fruit and vegetables. If you're planning to make changes to your diet and need help with it, you may contact a diabetes dietitian to help with your diet plan.

Badly managed blood sugar level can damage many parts of the body, including the nerves and vessels that supply the feet. Because of this, people with diabetes have an increased risk of developing foot problems. That's why it's important to check your feet daily and choose your footwear wisely (check our last week’s post!).
A pair of well-fitting and comfortable shoes is important to help keep small foot problems such as a corn, blister, or a callus from turning into severe ones.
Below 👇🏻 are some tips on how to choose the right shoes if you’re suffering from diabetes.
Finally, always remember to consult with your doctor if something feels wrong. 😊
