I am Jinyung Kim, an Assistant Professor at the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma. My research examines child and family well-being in the context of child maltreatment, foster care, the intergenerational cycle of trauma, substance use and addictive behaviors, and multiple forms of violence. Through this work, I seek to strengthen child welfare policies and practices and promote resilience and well-being among children and families.
Living in different countries, including Romania, France, South Korea, and the United States, I have had opportunities to connect with people and communities in a variety of ways—from volunteering at Victor Babeș Hospital in Romania to participating in community service activities through the Red Cross Youth in Korea and working with child welfare professionals, families, and state administrators through the Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSR) in Maryland.
Together, these experiences have shaped how I approach individuals, families, and the systems surrounding them in my research and continue to inform the questions I explore about child and family well-being.
