As smartphones get more innovative and connectivity to emails, text messages, and video messages increases, our screen time increases. Unfortunately, many drivers still lack the restraint needed to put their phones down and just drive. Using a cell phone while driving has contributed to a rise in car accidents in the San Francisco area.

There are four exceptions. These include drivers calling to report an emergency, cell phone use on private property, bus drivers, or emergency service personal operating an authorized emergency vehicle.

In San Francisco, if a driver is caught talking on a handheld device, they are breaking the law. Drivers must use an earpiece, speakerphone, Bluetooth device, or other hands-free device to speak on their mobile phone.

After seeing the vehicle near Richardson Avenue and Francisco Street, police tried to pull the car over but the driver instead led officers on a chase. The sheriff's office and California Highway Patrol joined the chase, and by 2:40 p.m., numerous patrol cars were seen engaged in a slow-speed chase with the suspect through central San Francisco.

The vehicle had its tires blown out by a spike strip at some point, and the driver eventually came to a stop in the Mission District. According to witnesses, the driver got out of the car and appeared to be trying to approach another car, which drove away. Video shows him giving up on the car and running away from the scene.

Lefty O'Doul Plaza is located at Third and Berry streets. The Lefty O'Doul Bridge is adjacent to the Lefty O'Doul Plaza entrance to Oracle Park and is the primary connector between the ballpark and the Giants parking lots. Joseph Strauss, who also designed the better-known Golden Gate Bridge, designed the historic bridge, which opened in 1933. The Lefty O'Doul Bridge is a working drawbridge that once carried streetcar and train traffic in addition to automobiles and pedestrians. During a recent renovation, two lanes of the bridge were outfitted with a pedestrian-friendly surface to accommodate the thousands of baseball guests who walk over the bridge from the parking lots to Oracle Park. The bridge is named after Francis Joseph "Lefty" O'Doul, one of San Francisco's most popular ballplayers. Lefty O'Doul's baseball career spanned five decades and included time in uniform as a pitcher, an outfielder, and manager. O'Doul spent parts of three seasons with the New York Giants, and played for and managed the Pacific Coast League's San Francisco Seals. In his most memorable Major League season, O'Doul batted .398 and hit 32 home runs in 1929.

If you park at a multi-space parking pay station in San Francisco, you can get on your journey more quickly, not having to look for monies or return to your vehicle to display a ticket. Furthermore, you can remotely extend your time limit from any pay station or via the Pay-by-Phone mobile app, eliminating the need to return to the original parking meter. The multi-space parking pay stations replaced single-space parking meters to include new configurations that moved from pay-by-space to pay-by-plate technology. This technology ties together pay station data with license plate (LPR) technology, mobile enforcement solutions, and "Cloud-based" payment methods, such as pay-by-cell.
