Moments later, Tanner awakens in his car with Jones, with things seemingly normal; Tanner however finds himself hearing voices in his head regarding an accident. When the pair track down the prison van, Tanner finds himself suddenly disappearing from his car and reappearing in the driver's seat of an ambulance carrying a critically injured patient. To his shock, he learns he is actually inhabiting the body of the ambulance's driver, and is confused by the event. Tanner soon discovers he has an ability that lets him "Shift" into another person's body, taking on their appearance but retaining his own memories and skills. Deciding to use this ability to his advantage, Tanner begins helping people across the city while continuing to investigate Jericho.

Which isn't exactly right but it makes for a hell of a pitch. Initially I thought it was the dumbest idea one could possibly put into a game franchise known for being 'realistic'. It just sounds ludicrous to picture a skilled driver's ghost possessing people out on the street and taking control over their vehicle. But DSF doesn't care about any of that! It doesn't care that it is stupid or it doesn't make sense, it just runs with it past the disbelief and takes it as far as it can go. The idea might sound dumb from a narrative point of view but makes for a killer fun time!

I have nothing but praise for how smart Driver San Francisco is and how far it was willing to take a dumb sounding premise and make it work in a smart way. It packed its city full of neat little details (like Akira like tail light traces that help you focus on cars you are chasing, to how you can't kill pedestrians who jump out of the way at the last minute because you are a cool cop and skilled driver), a killer soundtrack, lovable characters and a surprisingly 'deep' (I'm using it very lightly) story. One I wasn't expecting in a driving game!

The game has one of the largest driving environments. The game's San Francisco recreation has about 208 miles (335 km) of roads. Various landmarks are recreated in the game including half of the Bay Bridge and parts of Marin County and Oakland. In the Wii version, however, access to the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges are blocked, thus preventing the driver from driving through parts of Marin County and Oakland. However, it is a more fictionalized interpretation of these areas.

On April 23, 2010, Ubisoft registered the domain driversanfranciscogame.com as well as driversanfrancisco.com and driversanfran.com, suggesting that San Francisco was the setting of the new game in the series. On May 27, 2010, Ubisoft confirmed that the next installment in the Driver series would appear on E3 2010, along with other games. On 7 June 2010, Ubisoft released a teaser website containing a live action trailer, resembling the first mission of the original Driver game, along with a countdown for Ubisoft's E3 2010 conference.

Ubisoft also created the game's Facebook page, which upon clicking in the "Like" button, opens a slightly different version of the trailer, showing a Californian driver license of John Tanner. A billboard at the LA Convention Center for E3 revealed the title of the new game to be Driver: San Francisco. Ubisoft officially announced the game on their E3 2010 conference. On November 12, 2010 the game has been delayed and is set to be released in FY 2012, which is between March 31, 2011 and the same date in 2012.

The program allows drivers with two years' experience safely operating heavy military vehicles to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) without taking the driving test (skills test). This program is available in every state. To date, more than 40,000 service members and veterans have taken advantage of this waiver program.

The premise of the game expertly allows it to incorporate this feature without compromising the fluidity of the story. Players step into the shoes of driver Tanner, who becomes stuck in a coma after a car accident. In his unconscious state, by hitting a single button, Tanner can jump from his current body into another one, allowing players to become whoever they want in a single instance. This also allows players to start new missions. Jump into the body of a police officer in the middle of a high-speed chase or become a college kid aiming to win a drag race to afford his tuition. The fast-speed and endless opportunities that Driver: San Francisco affords means it rarely gets boring for players, and while GTA 5 already has an interactive open world, it would be even more engaging with a similar feature.

Nvidia today released the latest 545.84 version of their Game Ready GeForce graphics driver, bringing along a useful quality-of life update to RTX 20-series GPU users in the form of Video Super Resolution (VSR) support. Besides that GeForce family support extension, the new driver also brings about support for DLSS 3-based frame generation for both Naraka: Bladepoint and the already-released, chaotic, bloody fest that is Warhammer: Vermintide 2.

The highlight of this driver in terms of how impactful it will be for the majority of users relates to Nvidia's VSR support. The technology, which aims to improve image quality of stream-compressed videos, now works for even older, lower-resolution content at the mere flick of a driver toggle.

While not directly related to the TensorRT announcement, the AI-acceleration engine that's responsible for an about 70% speedup in AI-related workloads, the added support for AI-based video quality increase does show that Nvidia is still finding more uses for AI and its Tensor cores, even on GPUs that are two product generations old now.

The new VSR 1.5 tech provides even greater clarity and resolution improvements, while also expanding support for RTX 20-series users. It will also improve the quality of video that doesn't need to be upscaled, meaning if you watch a 1080p video on a 1080p monitor, or even 4K content on a 4K monitor. The tech is so good that Microsoft built a version of it straight into the Edge browser.
