Driving a 7.5 tonne lorry without CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is illegal in the UK. The law requires drivers of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes to hold a valid CPC, which involves passing a series of tests to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in driving large vehicles safely and efficiently. Failure to comply with this requirement can result in hefty fines and penalties, as well as endangering the safety of others on the road. It's important to always ensure that you are properly licensed and qualified before operating any vehicle on public roads.
The CPC tests can be quite challenging, as they require you to have a good understanding of the rules and regulations related to driving a large vehicle. It also requires proving your knowledge and skills in areas such as defensive driving techniques, vehicle maintenance, safe loading and unloading, road signs and traffic regulations. However, with good preparation and study, it is possible to pass the test.
Once you have successfully completed the required CPC tests, it usually takes about 2-4 weeks for your card to arrive in the mail. In the meantime, you can check the status of your application on the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency website.
There are a few things you can do while you wait for your card to arrive. First, it's important to keep up with the training requirements associated with the CPC. This includes studying the Driver CPC syllabus and completing any other training or tests that may be required. Additionally, make sure you have read and understand all of the driving regulations and laws in your area so that when your card arrives, you are ready to hit the road!

Furthermore, it can also open up opportunities for career advancement by demonstrating your knowledge to employers or prospective clients.
There are four tests associated with the Driver CPC modules:
Case studies or multiple-choice questions test
Demonstration practical test
Instructor skills and knowledge test
Hazard perception test. For each of the four tests, you must have an approved pass mark and score above it to be deemed as having successfully completed the module.
After you have successfully passed all four tests, you will receive a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card. This card shows that you have completed the module and met the necessary requirements. The CPC card also serves as proof of your competence to drive professionally. All professional drivers must carry their Driver CPC card at all times while driving and must make sure it is up to date with regular periodic refresher training.
