Pre-season is the time of the year that can make athletes really nervous particularly because it is the time to bid farewell to the break and knuckle down into a rigid training block before the season commences. Even though it is an exciting time of the year, players who’ve been relaxing a bit too much takes this as a mental pressure on themselves.
Even though it is amazing what some time away can do for your body; a good break revitalizes and refreshes not only the body but also the mind. By the time January rolled around the players start feeling as though they’re ready to embark on what was going to be one of the toughest times of the season.
Basically, a pre season netball training program is somewhat like this -
3 x Weights Sessions (high intensity, high rep range lifting focusing on power and strength) approx. 60- 90mins / session
· 3-4 x Courtwork Sessions (speed and agility focus with specific skills and drills component) 90-120mins / session
· 2 x Fitness Sessions (high intensity anaerobic and aerobic conditioning) approx. 30mins /session
· 2 x Physio & Rehab Sessions (maintaining flexibility and maintenance on areas to avoid injury) 30-60min / session
If you’re thinking why the pre season netball training is important it is primarily because this is the time for the team to build a connection with some of the new athletes that have been welcomed into the squad. Furthermore, a pre-season camp is a new challenge where the team can head away for a weekend without any pre-plans, but definitely with the idea to gel well and to practice even more.
If you’ve been thinking pre-season is a tough time of the year, it isn’t always the same especially when there are fun bits and pieces that can be spent away from the training court, and playing a game or sport that interests the players but in a way improves their skills.
