I can assist with basic genealogy research to help you discover your family roots in America. I do not have the expertise for foreign genealogy research. I use Ancestry.com and a variety of other on-line tools to trace family ancestry in North America.
I have conducted more than 200 oral history interviews and absolutely enjoy these projects! I have experience conducting, transcribing and archiving interviews. I can work with local historical societies and other organizations interested in gathering oral history stories.
In my former career as an Interpretive Naturalist for Minnesota State Parks, I spent a lot of time researching historical and cultural topics and developing interpretive programs to engage park visitors and local school groups with such topics. I am passionate about including diverse voices and perspectives in the stories we tell about our land and natural resources.
Since 2021, I have been involved with researching early abolitionists who settled in Minnesota prior to the Civil War and their connections to the Underground Railroad. This work continues in collaboration with other researchers across the region in addition to technical support from the Minnesota Humanities Center. Our goal is to document evidence to be able to list local sites on the National Park Service - Network to Freedom.
