How are beach scores calculated?
Each beach has an estimated shelter rating for different wind directions. Drift combines these ratings with forecast wind data to estimate wind comfort. A higher score means less estimated wind exposure.
Scores do not measure swimming safety. Always check local conditions, waves, currents and warning signs.
Why might the wind feel different from the forecast?
Forecasts represent conditions over an area. Cliffs, dunes, headlands and changing weather can affect the wind at your exact location. Shelter ratings are estimates, so actual conditions may differ.
How do I change which regions I see?
Open the Explore tab and tap Regions. Select the regions you’re interested in and apply your choices. Drift remembers them for your next visit.
What does the wind map show?
The moving streaks show the direction the wind is travelling. Use the slider beneath the map to view the available forecast times.
What if beach information is incorrect?
Please email us with the beach name and the information that needs updating. Facilities, access rules and conditions can change.
