DRHS Swimming & Diving Overall Expectations (more detail broken-down into categories below)
Athletes are expected to be at ALL practices and meets, unless they have a legit conflict that they told Sully about. Communicate with Sully if they cannot attend practice or a meet by sending her a GroupMe DM or an email. Make sure to tell Sully ASAP if they know about a meet that they cannot attend!!
*Athletes need a minimum of three practices before they can compete in a meet.
*Club swimmers & divers need to coordinate a practice plan with Sully.
*There is a SIX meet minimum requirement to be able to compete at the State Meet!!
*Team suits & caps should be worn at every meet. Tech suits are permitted when necessary.
*Team shirts will be provided. Any additional apparel needs to be purchased at athlete's expense in the team store.
*ALL team events should be participated in by all swimmers & divers. Team dinners should be attended and athletes should communicate with Sully if they cannot attend. Buddy & team gifts should be given when assigned.
Chain of Communication
Swimmer to Head Coach
Parent and Swimmer to Head Coach

**The coaching staff’s door is always open, but communication must be handled through the proper process. This protocol is designed to empower swimmers and foster an environment that supports respectful and constructive dialogue.

Be on time and ready to get in the water when practice begins.
**You should arrive at practice ready to participate. There will be no congregating in locker rooms...before OR after practice.
100% work ethic is expected both in and out of the pool. Push yourself to do your best.
Communicate with Sully if you are not able to attend a practice/meet. Do not just send the info with a teammate. Make sure you are proactive about telling her about meets that you will not be able to attend.
Everyone is expected to be able to swim all events. Try learning a new stroke if you have never done it before. All levels of ability are welcome on the team.
Cheer on your fellow swimmers and divers through the last event.
Your attendance at practice will be considered when entering swimmers in events / relays.
Club swimmers are expected to coordinate with Sully regarding scheduling, attempting to balance both teams.
Be part of the team! Attend team events as scheduled.
**HOWEVER, athletes should NOT attend any team events, i.e. practices, meets, etc. if they are sick in any way (whether potentially COVID or not), have been exposed to someone who has (or potentially has COVID), have been tested for COVID but not received the results yet, etc.
Keep your grades up to swim. You are expected to keep your grades at C or better. If you have a D on eligibility, you will receive a warning and be required to participate in a mandatory Access Time with Sully. If you have two Ds and/or an F, you are ineligible to swim that week. Eligibility comes out on Wednesday; you have until 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon to turn in a note to Sully from your teacher that your grade has come up to a C or better. Eligibility runs from Saturday to Saturday. DO NOT TELL YOUR TEACHERS THAT THEY NEED TO MOVE YOUR GRADE UP SO THAT YOU CAN SWIM!! Don’t put yourself in that position! Keep on top of your grades! Sully’s room is open for Access Time if you need a place to study in the morning!
Show respect to all teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and parents! Have good sportsmanship!
Remember that you represent Dakota Ridge at ALL times...practices, meets, school, and outside in the community! Inappropriate behavior, including alcohol and drug related issues, will be dealt with following school, CHSAA, and team policies, and can result in expulsion from the team.
DRHS provides access to a certified athletic trainer. Injured swimmers must be evaluated by the DRHS trainer or provide a doctor’s note to be excused from training. Injured swimmers are still expected to attend practices and meets, contributing as assistants to coaches and supporting the program as needed.
Arrival: Swimmers & divers must arrive on time, prepared, and ready for team warm-ups. Specific arrival times will be communicated in advance for meets.
Warm-Ups: All swimmers are required to participate in team warm-ups. Proper warm-up ensures safety, performance readiness, and fosters team unity.
Team Area: Swimmers & divers are expected to remain in the designated team area unless preparing for an event. Supporting teammates is an important part of meet participation. Cleaning up the team area at the end of the meet should be a GROUP effort, not just one or two teammates.
Sportsmanship: All swimmers & divers should demonstrate respect toward officials, competitors, coaches, and teammates. Positive encouragement and good sportsmanship are non-negotiable standards of the program.
Cheering and Support: Swimmers & divers are expected to stay engaged throughout the meet, cheering for teammates during their events, celebrating team successes, and staying to the end of the meet (unless communicated to Sully about a family conflict).
Representation: While at a meet, swimmers & divers represent DRHS and are expected to maintain behavior that reflects pride, responsibility, and respect for the program and school.
