Welcome to my personal website
I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Technology and Entrepreneurship Education at the University of Malta and a warranted Mechanical Engineer specialising in design science and user experience. I obtained both my Ph.D. (2017) and M.Sc. by research (2013) from the University of Malta, where my academic training fostered a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
Since joining the University of Malta as a lecturer in 2019, my research has focused on improving teaching and learning experiences through the thoughtful integration of technology and constructionist approaches to education. My work lies at the intersection of Design Science and Technology, Cognitive Processes and Emotion, and Teaching and Learning.
Within this interdisciplinary space, I investigate how design methods and emerging technologies—such as Augmented Reality and Computer-Aided Design—can support innovative educational practices, enhance student learning, and assist teachers in designing engaging and effective learning environments. At the same time, my research explores how cognitive processes and emotional responses influence learning, decision-making, and classroom experiences.
I strongly believe that meaningful innovation emerges through the integration of diverse perspectives. For this reason, I actively collaborate with researchers, educators, and stakeholders from different disciplines and sectors. Further information about ongoing and completed research initiatives can be found on the Projects page.
Design theory and its application in education, focusing on design methods and student-centred approaches to learning design.
User experience in educational contexts, with particular attention to the cognitive and emotional processes that influence learners’ engagement and interaction with technology.
The pedagogical integration of emerging technologies, particularly augmented reality, artificial intelligence and computer aided engineering design, within learning environments informed by constructionist principles.
