Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Dr. McInnis was raised as the oldest of four children. Growing up, he was immersed in various sports, which significantly shaped his character and work ethic. Hockey and baseball were key interests, with he playing at a competitive level in both. He played Junior A hockey and was even considered by the Boston Red Sox for a pitching position during his youth, showcasing his natural athletic talent. After completing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in 1992 at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he took time off to travel across the United States. In 1997, Dr. McInnis earned a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics from Dalhousie University. His growing interest in healthcare led him to pursue a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Dalhousie Medical School, which he completed in 2004. While at Dalhousie, he also earned an Epidemiology Certification in 2002, further solidifying his medical knowledge.
Following his graduation, Dr. McInnis continued his training through a Post Graduate Program at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he focused on Emergency and Family Medicine. This rigorous training equipped him with the skills and experience required for the diverse demands of his medical practice.
