Our work with CHOA:

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is openly accepting donations from the community. Volunteers are asked to follow the strict donation guidelines. Girl Scout Silver Award projects are high awards that highlight a scout’s ability to lead, organize and make an impact in the community. Girl Scouts must contribute a minimum of 40 hours and take multiple steps to complete the Silver Award. Girl Scouts can work solo or in a project team of 4 Girl Scouts.

We decided to share our common passion for helping others and use inspiration from Ashley's experience in the hospital and NaZyia's desire to help those in need. After researching the benefits of Art Therapy, we reviewed the accepted donations list and decided to assemble art kits. We worked with our community to solicit donations, provide education and awareness on why Art Therapy for sick cancer patients was beneficial and therapeutic. Our goal was to collect enough art supplies and assemble kits for the 30 total pediatric cancer patient beds. At the end of our project we exceeded our goal of collecting supplies, such as crayons, playdoh, small paintbrushes and small paints, markers, and colored pencils. We have received donations of coloring books, drawing paper, notepads are also accepted so that patients may express themselves freely.

We also look forward to providing school-based pieces of art in support of those school programs. We are providing supplies for approximately 158 patients on the Aflac unit, which is separate from other patients. We look for providing art supplies for all the cancer patients who are bedridden or otherwise.
