Canopy VR is a multiplayer virtual reality game for Meta Quest, made by an independent developer ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the game uses, where it goes and what you can do about it. It covers the Canopy VR app and its online play, which runs through Epic Online Services.

Canopy VR keeps your progress on your own headset, and has no ads, no analytics and no trackers. When you play online, it uses Epic Online Services to find rooms and connect players, and shares information only to run online games and keep players safe.
Your progress, settings, player name and blocked players: stay on your headset, until you uninstall the game.
Photos and videos from the in-game camera: stay on your headset, until you delete them.
Your Player ID for promo codes: stays on your headset, unless you send it to us yourself to claim a prize.
Player name, look, level and in-game movement: go to the players in your room, through Epic Online Services. Not kept after you leave, except the room's island on the host's headset.
Your voice in voice chat: passed live to nearby players in your room, through Epic Online Services. Never recorded or stored.
Your install ID (a random number the game makes): goes to the player hosting your room, when you play online. Not kept after you leave.
Your Epic player ID (made for your device by Epic): known to Epic Online Services and the players in your room. Kept under Epic's own policy.
Reports you make, or that are made about you: kept with Epic Online Services, where we read them, as long as needed to handle them.
Purchases: handled by the Meta Horizon Store (Meta handles payment), under Meta's own policy.
Most of what the game knows about you never leaves your headset. It is saved in the game's own storage:
Your progress: level, coins, gems, cats, items, quests, cosmetics and rewards.
Your settings: player name, volume, controls, voice chat mode, recent room codes and the players you have blocked.
An install ID: a random number the game creates the first time it runs. It is not your Meta account, your name or a hardware ID. If you reinstall the game, you get a new one.
A Player ID: a random 6-character code shown in Settings, used only for promo codes. The game doesn't send it anywhere. If you send it to us yourself (for example to claim a puzzle prize), we use it only to make your promo code.
This information is not sent to us, except as described under Online play. Your progress belongs to your device: the game trusts it as it is and we don't keep a copy.
Online play (Quick Play, public rooms and private room codes) runs through Epic Online Services, a service from Epic Games. We don't run game servers of our own. Each room is hosted on the headset of the player who opened it, and everyone else connects to that player through Epic.
Signing in. When you open Play Online, the game signs in to Epic Online Services with an ID that Epic makes for your device. You don't need an Epic account and you don't see any sign-in screens. Epic receives your player name, the type of device (for example "Android Quest 3"), and your internet (IP) address, and gives your game an Epic player ID.
Finding rooms. Epic keeps the list of open rooms: each room's code, its name (for a public room, the host's player name, like "Mango22's Island"), how many players are in it, and who is in it.
In a room, the player hosting it receives:
your player name, level, hat and colour, which everyone in the room sees;
your Epic player ID, which the game uses for reports;
your install ID (other players only ever see a scrambled version of it, used for blocking);
where your avatar, head and hands are, what you hold, and what you do in the game;
the cats you bring with you: their kind, name and level;
your voice while you talk (see Voice chat).
Connections between players always go through Epic's relay servers, so players never see each other's home internet address. Epic sees the addresses, because that is how it passes the game along.
What stays after you leave: a room's island (buildings and items, not who built them) is saved on the host's headset under the room code, so it's there when they open that code again. Nothing about you is saved there.
Epic handles the information it receives under Epic Games' privacy policy.
Rude names are replaced with "Explorer" and a number before other players see them.
Local Wi-Fi games don't use the internet or Epic. The same in-room information goes to the player hosting the game on their own device, and the game announces itself (its name and player count) on your local network so others can find it.
The game asks for permission to use your microphone. It uses it in two cases only: for voice chat while you play with others, and for the sound of videos you record with the in-game camera.
Voice chat is sent live to the room's host, who passes it on to players near you in the same room (within about 70 metres in the game), always through Epic's relay. It is never recorded or stored by the host, by Epic or by us.
You choose how your mic works in Settings > Voice chat: Open mic, Push to talk or Mic off. With Mic off, the game never uses your microphone.
In public rooms you don't hear strangers until you unmute a player in Menu > Players, or turn on Settings > Voice chat > Strangers' voices. In private rooms (friends with your code) and Local Wi-Fi games, you hear everyone nearby.
You can mute or block any player in Menu > Players.
When you open the Quest menu or take the headset off, the game stops using your microphone until you come back.
Other players can hear you and may record their own screen, as with any voice chat. Don't say personal details, like your full name, address or school, in voice chat.
Photos and videos you take with the in-game camera are saved only on your headset: in the Pictures/Canopy VR and Movies/Canopy VR folders, or in the game's own storage if those folders can't be used. The game never uploads them. You decide whether to share them.
A photo can show other players' avatars and names. A video also records the game's sound, other players' voices, and your own microphone unless your mic is set to Mic off. Please think about the other players before you post a clip.
These tools keep online rooms safe. Reports and bans are kept with Epic Online Services, where only we can see them.
Block (Menu > Players): you stop seeing and hearing that player. Your block list is kept only on your headset.
Report: your game sends the report to Epic Online Services from your own sign-in. It contains the reason you picked, your player name, the reported player's name and Epic player ID, and the room code. We read reports in Epic's developer tools only to review problems and decide on bans. The player you report is not told who reported them.
Vote kick: when enough players in a room vote, a player is removed from that room and can't rejoin it. Votes are not saved after the room closes.
Bans: if we ban a player, we add a ban to their Epic player ID in Epic's developer tools. Their game checks this when it signs in for online play, and they can't list, open or join online rooms while the ban lasts. They can still play solo.
Anything you buy for Canopy VR, like a bundle or gems, is bought through the Meta Horizon Store. Meta handles the payment, and we never see your card or payment details: the game only learns what you bought, so it can give it to you.
When the game starts, it also asks Meta to confirm that your copy came from the store (an "entitlement check"); Meta only answers yes or no. If you bought something but didn't receive it (for example, the headset lost its connection), the game asks Meta for your purchases and hands it over.
Your Meta account, your Quest headset and the Meta Horizon Store collect their own information under Meta's privacy policy. That includes things like your account, purchases, and how you use your headset; we don't control it.
No ads, and no advertising or analytics tools in the game.
We don't sell, rent or trade your information, or share it for marketing.
We don't track you outside the game, and the game doesn't use your location, contacts or your headset's cameras.
We only share information if the law requires it, or to protect players from serious harm.
Canopy VR is meant for players aged 13 and older, because online rooms include voice chat with other players. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and think your child under 13 has used online play, contact us and we will delete any reports or bans about them that we can find.
Parents can turn off voice chat in the game (Settings > Voice chat > Mic off, and Hear others: Off), and can use Meta's parental supervision tools for Quest.
On your headset: uninstalling Canopy VR deletes your progress, settings, install ID and Player ID. Photos and videos in Pictures/Canopy VR and Movies/Canopy VR stay until you delete them yourself.
Voice chat and in-game movement: not kept once they reach the other players.
Reports: kept with Epic Online Services while we need them to handle the problem.
Bans: kept while the ban lasts.
Private room islands: saved on the headset of the player who hosted the room, until they uninstall the game.
Messages you send us (for example a Player ID for a prize): kept only as long as we need them to help you.
Epic Online Services: your Epic player ID, sign-in and connection records are kept by Epic under Epic Games' privacy policy.
To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, contact us on our Discord server (https://discord.gg/bWUBQ2w7e) with your player name and roughly when and where you played. We may ask for details to find the right records, and we'll answer within 30 days.
Security. Only we can see reports and bans in Epic's developer tools. Online play goes through Epic's relay, so players never see each other's internet address. The game never sends passwords or payment details to other players, and you shouldn't share private information in voice chat.
Changes. If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what we collect, we'll also say so on the game's store page or in the game.
