I'm about to finish (currently in the final battle) my 2nd time through Verdant Wind (1st time on Maddening), this time with my ultimate dream team! I'm so proud of them all I want to share the whole setup.

DISCLAIMER: In actual battle, the ways units got scattered and teamed up varied wildly. It was very fun to find different sets of synergies among different groups of them--I found way more than I did in any other team I've run, I guess because this one was so deliberately well-planned. But I always intended them to really be at their best in a set of 4 squads of 3 units each. The goal with that was to be good to go for The City Without Light, but I kinda screwed myself there. Incidentally, not being allowed to reposition your main characters on the Map before a battle is totally stupid and I wish I could mod that out.

DARK FLIER: MARIANNE extra Combat Art(s) not pictured in first image - Marianne will keep her teammates and their mounts healthy and standing. As a mage, she can also help by bursting armor and tanking other mages. As a fellow flier, she also helps with triangle attacks.

The front of the army. These 3 foot soldiers are each a powerhouse, trained for power first, survivability second, and not much else. Each one can mostly hold their own as a lone wolf. As a result, they have almost no utility or mobility other than Lysithea's Warp and movement-based combat arts, and each has a major weakness (or in Petra's case, two not so major weaknesses adding up to about the same as a single major one). However, when united as a team, they can cover each others' shortcomings and be truly unstoppable. And they of course do even better whenever an extra support unit is nearby.

Never retreat, never surrender, and win the fight with style. This squad is only out in its full force when the max team size goes above 10--but when they are on the battlefield, they are incredibly helpful and almost incapable of death, prioritizing utility, self-sufficiency, and mobility above all else. And Dorothea at least almost always gets to be in the field.

Fun fact about Dorothea this run: in my 5 playthroughs of Three Houses, I literally had no idea that the Dance of the Goddess gambit existed until this very dream team was just about to storm Enbarr (convenient timing!). That's because the Blue Lion late-game purchaseable battalions are the only ones I missed, because BL was my 2nd route and at that point I still had no idea that a bunch of new OP battalions show up in the Battalions Guild in part 2. I stumbled upon the Opera Co. Volunteers battalion on Dorothea's mini-boss page (if you never recruit her) just in time when I happened to be browsing the wiki looking at calendars in order to number and plan my very last days of instruction at the monastery. So yeah, my original plan was to keep her equipped with Nuvelle Attendants Co. all the way to the end, instead of having an AOE DANCER ON THE TEAM! Imagine that.

GREAT KNIGHT: FERDINAND - He attacc, he protecc, but most importantly he sensitive and caring. When not in battle himself, Ferdinand is Bernie's guard adjutant. I made up for the general jack-of-all-trades-ness (but still the best tank in the army!) of the Great Knight class by giving him some of the very most powerful (and most expensive to use) weapons and combat arts in the game, and the RNG matched my effort by giving him plenty of strength as well. It definitely could have given him more Dex, though, knowing Ferdinand. I'm looking forward to seeing how broken he can get as a Lancer Dancer in my next playthrough, where I'll finally make sure all 4 Ashen Wolves are on my team and take the church down one last time.

BOMBARDIER: FELIX - Bow Knight attack adjutant, usually attached to Leonie. He's almost as powerful as his most powerful teammates when he gets the chance to fire a shot. Felix is the only squire who comes on nearly every battle, as the other two serve as backups to Ferdinand and Ingrid when the team size is higher than 10.

FIELD MEDIC: LINDHARDT - Bishop healing adjutant, usually attached to Ferdinand (if Ferdinand and Ingrid are both out in the field), or Caspar (if only Ferdinand is in the field, in which case his healing adjutant is Ingrid). I originally planned for this role to be covered by Constance, but the RNG had other ideas and I had to focus more on the rest of the team. But it's Lindhardt--he does great. Even as a field medic. Even when he sees blood and feels faint.
