Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 25th, 2025.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose information about you when you use our Dream Journal App. By accessing or using Dream Journal, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We do not create or maintain user accounts, nor do we store personally identifiable information (PII) on external servers. However, the app processes the following types of data:

a. Biometric Data (for login)

The app uses your device’s built‑in biometric authentication (fingerprint, pin, face unlock) to verify your identity.
No biometric data is ever read or stored by the app. The biometric verification is handled entirely by the Android operating system and secure hardware (e.g., KeyStore). We never receive or have access to your fingerprint, face model, or any raw biometric information.

b. Voice Data (for voice‑to‑text messaging)

When you use the voice‑to‑text feature, the app records your voice temporarily.
On‑device processing (if applicable): If the speech recognition is performed by the Android device’s built‑in speech recognizer, your voice data is processed locally and not sent to our servers. The resulting text is then used only as you direct (e.g., to fill a message field).
Cloud processing (if applicable): If you enable an optional cloud‑based recognizer (e.g., Google Speech‑to‑Text), your voice recording may be sent to that third‑party service. You will be asked for separate permission.
We do not store voice recordings or transcripts on our servers.

c. Advertising Data

We use third‑party ad services (e.g., Google AdMob, see Section 4) to display ads. These services may collect:

- Device identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID)
- IP address
- App usage data (impressions, clicks)
- Coarse location (if you grant permission)
This data is collected and controlled by the ad provider under their own privacy policy.

d. No External Databases

We do not use Firebase, Firestore, or any other cloud backend. No data you enter in the app (messages, text, settings) is ever uploaded to our servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

Biometric login -Only to unlock local app features; no data is transmitted.
Voice‑to‑text -Only to convert speech to text for your immediate use (e.g., composing a message). Audio is discarded after processing.
Ads -To serve relevant advertisements and monetize the app.

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your information to third parties except:

As required by law or legal process.
To comply with a valid court order or government request.
With ad networks; for the purpose of serving ads (as described in Section 4).

4. Third-Party Services
Our app uses:

Android Biometric Prompt (part of AndroidX) -No data sharing.
Android Speech Recognizer (device system) -May use Google services if you have Google app installed; see Google’s Privacy Policy.

You can opt out of personalized ads via Android Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.

5. Data Storage and Retention

Local storage only: Messages or settings you create remain only on your device in local storage (e.g., SQLite, SharedPreferences). Uninstalling the app will delete that data.
Voice recordings: Not retained after text conversion.
Biometric credentials: Never stored by the app; handled by system.

6. Required Permissions and Why

Permission Used For

USE_BIOMETRIC Authenticating user with device fingerprint/face, pattern or pin.

RECORD_AUDIO Capturing voice for voice‑to‑text conversion.

INTERNET Loading ads. No app data transmitted.

No account -nothing to delete remotely.
Voice data -you control when recording starts/stops; you can deny microphone permission.
Biometrics -managed entirely in device Settings.
Ad personalization -disable via device Settings (see Section 4).
Data deletion -uninstall the app; all local data will be removed from your device.

7. Children's Privacy

Our app is not directed at children under 13 (or applicable age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us at the email address below and we will delete it.

8. GDPR Compliance

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area ("EEA"), and by chance, we happen to stumble on your information, we shall process your personal information in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"). This means that we will only process your personal information if we have a legal basis to do so. Our legal basis for processing your personal information may include your consent, the performance of a contract with you, our legitimate interests, or compliance with a legal obligation.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority if you believe that we have violated your rights under the GDPR.

9. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice on the App when the change becomes effective. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about our information practices.
