Phase field method

 The Phase field method is a diffuse damage model which is based on the variational approach to brittle fracture. The damage is a natural outcome of an analysis obtained by the minimization of the total potential. Phase field model (PFM) simulates damage like diffuse damage models and is therefore easy to implement but at the same time can simulate sharp cracks like interface element model and therefore does not suffer from mesh dependency problem.
