More Physical Activity at Pitt
Our goal is to help students get the right amount of physical activity on campus while still managing their time to do school work and other activities.
My Teammates and I spent a good while observing the students at the University of Pittsburgh. We jotted down what we had saw and came up with some ideas to try and solve these problems. We looked for common pain points that the students expressed whether it had to do directly with exercise, or just walking to class
Taking the research that we had strung together, we came up with some questions that we would pursue fellow students with. Each of us interviewed two people, giving us six in total, and recorded what they had said. A lot of students were saying that the gyms and exercise areas are too crowded or they are too far away.
After Figuring out the common pain points among the students, my group and I got together to come up with as many ideas as possible. We came up with three low resolution prototypes that can be seen on the D/E Project page. We decided that the best route to go was to put some gym equipment in dormitories.
In class, my group and I presented our three prototypes. Colin Crawford created the prototype that had more gyms scattered around Pitt's Campus. The second prototype, which was a system that added additional hours and workers to the gym, was created by Conrad Gargani. The third prototype, which was created by me, was the plan to insert a gym equipment rental system within the dorm on campus.
After presenting our prototypes to the class, we interviewed some more students. Hearing from more students made us completely switch our approach. Originally, we were going to go with the gym rentals due to people not wanting to wait in crowded gyms. The interviews suggested that we should integrate more gyms around campus instead of putting rental equipment in dorms.
