About Dr Ann
Dr Ann holds a PhD degree in Pharmacy, is a pharmacist and academic at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. She is an avid academic and healthcare professional involved in enhancing health professions education at a tertiary level. She also recognises the importance of reaching children and disseminating health education information to them from a young age. Inspired by educating her own children in a fun way during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Ann developed engaging books for children. The books are designed to be child friendly and are written in a format that is easy for children to read and understand. She is committed to bringing medical and health education to children in a creative, interactive way. Through her Medical Education book collection (“MedEd Series for Children”) she hopes to create an understanding of health concepts and medicines from an early age and foster an interest in the medical and health sciences professions amongst the youth.
The first book in the “MedEd Series for Children” is a catchy rhyme to help children remember COVID-19 safety protocols and is entitled “The Germ Fighters’ Health and Hygiene Rhyme”. This book is accompanied by an animation video encouraging children to sing and dance along thereby emulating the non-pharmaceutical safety measures recommended during the pandemic.
The second book entitled “My Medical Picture Dictionary” introduces children to selected medical terminology to help them understand some of the various scientific medical words they have been exposed to during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Ann invites you to navigate her website where you can discover the e-books, the animation video and some exciting activities for children.
Have fun and stay safe,
Dr Ann
