Born and brought up in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Verma is a performing artist as well as an academician of high caliber. He received his training in Tabla playing in guru-shishya parampara from Prof. Sudheer Kumar Verma, the foremost disciple of Ustad Ahmadjaan Thirkwa. He also took intensive training under the guidance of Pt. Shital Prasad Mishra of Banaras Gharana and Ustad Sabir Khan of Farrukhabad Gharana. His academic career is profound as he completed his Ph.D.  from Bhatkhande Music Institute University, Lucknow in Tabla after Sangeet Nipun, M.Mus. and qualifying UGC NET. His area of specialization is both in the Theoretical & Practical aspects of Art of Tabla Playing and Research Methodology in Indian Music. He is honored with prestigious awards for his distinguished contribution to the field of Music: Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Taal Mani, Tabla Sri etc.
