ECO 715: Economic Growth and geopolitics

Term: July-Nov 2023

Offered: 2023

As India’s economy grows from being the fifth-biggest economy to the second-biggest economy over the next two decades, key decisions by government and corporate leaders cannot be taken in a vacuum. As India becomes a bigger economic player, its economy's security, physical and virtual assets, and material and people are closely and intricately linked to the national, regional, and global security context and India’s defence policy. The decisions of the leaders have to be taken in the real world and its geopolitics. It is, therefore, important for future leaders, whether in the public or corporate domains, to have a broad understanding of these issues.  The course will provide insights into India’s security scenario, its Defence Policy and the first ever Defence Reforms process, the Role of innovation and technology in Defence preparedness, the Regional security context and dealing with regional security challenges, changing global security context in a multi-polar world and strategies to deal with these evolving changes which will shape economic growth strategies of the future.
