The dragon, hearing the quest you are on and respecting your honestly agrees to a fair clean fight. After a long battle you both sustain critical injuries and die. Several moths later a traveler stumbles across the cave, and returns to the kingdom to tell the king of the awesome scene he saw, and how epic your fight must have been. You have become a legend, they still tell your story to this day (though they get most of the details wrong).
