South Carolina Communication Standards: C:MC:1
The dragons love tacos but they do NOT like spicy salsa! Their friend respects their love of tacos and cooks for them... but also respects their dislikes of salsa and tries to buy the non-spicy kind! How can we show our friends respect even if they like different things than we do?
Activity 1: Read The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania of Jordan
As you read talk about these questions
How do the girls feel about each other's food? Why? Have you ever felt this way?
How do feelings get hurt? Why are feelings hurt? Was there a way to prevent this?
What happens because the girls made judgments about each others foods?
What can we learn from the ending? How can we apply this to our friends?
Activity 2: What if I make a mistake? Learning to forgive!
The girl in Dragons Love Tacos makes a mistake and buys the wrong salsa! Mistakes happen! How can we forgive our friends?
Talk with your students about what the word forgive means.
Then make an anchor chart about what forgiveness as an action looks like, sounds like, and feels like.
Finally, have each student write an "I will..." statement relating to forgiveness and how he/she will take the specific discussion from class and apply it.
