Scientific Researcher (Voluntary)

Dragone Project

Location:

HMD Suit, Student life Centre.

Hours:

Every Friday 17:00 to 19:00

About us:

The Dragone Project, led by Hamed Rajabi since 2022, draws inspiration from his extensive PhD research on dragonfly wings in Iran and Germany. With a mission to create a more efficient drone design, the project unites a dedicated team of graduate and undergraduate students. Beginning with research on insect wing 3D printing by Saita et al, the project has exceeded expectations, focusing on biomimetics for improved drone flight. Milestones include a functional flapping mechanism and corrugated wings, with plans for joint integration and a launcher. This hands-on experience fosters skills in teamwork, creativity, research, and technical engineering, enhancing your CV with expertise in CAD, prototyping, design fabrication, testing, and experimentation. Final year projects have been tailored to further develop the drone design and there is also opportunity to collaborate and write a paper on the Project. There are also hopes to partake in the Natural Robotics Competition for 2024.

Job description:

Join us for our weekly meetings every Friday at 17:00 to 19:00 and get hands-on engineering experience as you get to create with 3D and resin printing, design on Fusion 360 CAD, test your prototypes and apply your research knowledge to the project. The team is looking for EEE engineering discipline and computing/IT students who are enthusiastic and are interested in some of these areas of the project.

Don’t worry if you’re not experienced yet we’re looking for people up for a challenge and are willing to try something new. The most important skills are commitment, time management, and creativity.
