Dr. Utkarsh Mahadeo Khaire is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Dharwad, Karnataka, India. He graduated from Nagpur University with a B.E. in Information Technology. He holds both a Master’s degree and a PhD from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland, an Institute of National Importance. During his Master’s program, he focused on “Enhanced Feature Selection and Classification of Microarray Data Using MapReduce Techniques based on Random Forest Algorithm,” where he designed a distributed computing environment to process high-dimensional microarray datasets. His doctoral research, titled “Risk Prediction and Prognosis of Life-Threatening Diseases Based on Healthcare Data,” addressed challenges such as the instability of feature selection techniques and the development of robust evaluation models in the context of healthcare data analytics. Dr. Khaire has numerous publications in prestigious SCI and SCOPUS-indexed journals at national and international levels. Over the last five years, his research has been deeply rooted in metaheuristic optimization algorithms. He has developed stable and effective feature selection techniques using various nature-inspired algorithms. Beyond research papers, Dr. Khaire is the author of two books and five book chapters. He has registered five copyrights and holds five patents. He has designed and delivered courses such as Machine Learning, Advanced Optimization Techniques, Financial Data Analytics, and Graphs and Social Networks. His core research areas include Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Metaheuristic Optimization Techniques. In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Khaire has been an invited speaker at several Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) and workshops across India. He has delivered expert talks on various aspects of metaheuristic optimization, covering topics like algorithmic design, stability in feature selection, and healthcare applications of nature-inspired computing. These invited talks have been well-received at multiple FDPs organized by reputed engineering institutions and universities, emphasizing his growing impact in the field.
Being a continuous learner with an inquisitive mind has molded him to be a Man of Research. He is currently working in fields like Gerontology, Environmental Engineering, and Digital Humanities. Webbing digital humanities and data science is the objective of his current research. It cannot be denied that he is a sincere and dedicated teacher who strives to give his best in all that he does.
