07/08/2026 NSF CAREER Award
Our proposal on the effects of grain boundary segregation spectra on grain boundary-related microstructural features has been awarded by the NSF CAREER program (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/show-award?AWD_ID=2542484). We are grateful for the support from NSF and excited to start the project.
05/08/2026 Zayed presents at AMI
Zayed presented his research on cold spray deposition of Sn-based alloys at the first annual AMI Research Showcase. Great job, Zayed!
04/27/2026 Fahim presents at MRS
Fahim attended the 2026 MRS Spring Meeting in Hawaii and delivered an oral presentation on nanoscale grain boundary precipitation in aluminum alloys. Nice work, Fahim!
03/31/2026 First research paper
Fahim's paper titled "Nanoscale Grain Boundary Precipitation with Unique Interfacial Segregation for Stabilizing Aluminum 5083 Alloy" has been accepted by Materials Letters. We sincerely acknowledge Dr. Chongze Hu's group for their valuable computational contributions. Congrats to the team!
12/23/2025 Group lunch
We had our group lunch at Chow's Country Buffet. A big thank you to all group members for their hard work throughout the semester!
12/03/2025 First atomization run
We performed our first atomization run today. We appreciate the grant from AFRL and the help from Dr. Lorena Perez!
09/25/2025 New research grant
Our DEPSCoR proposal on cold spray-based metallization of composites was funded by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (https://www.war.gov/News/Releases/Release/Article/4319001/department-of-war-awards-19m-to-stimulate-academic-research-in-underutilized-st/). Looking forward to the collaboration with Prof. Luke Brewer.
08/13/2025 Alabama Materials Institute Open House
Fahim (top panel) and Zayed (bottom panel) attended the Alabama Materials Institute (AMI) Open House and did a great job at the poster session.
Fahim's poster is titled "Effects of grain boundary precipitation on heterogeneous microstructure of aluminum alloys".
Zayed's poster is titled "Effects of solute elements on stabilizing grain sizes of aluminum alloys".
Many thanks to AMI for the great opportunity to connect and learn!
07/31/2025 Group lunch
We had our group lunch at Logan's Roadhouse. Thank you to all the group members for their hard work during the summer!
01/27/2025 First experiment in the lab
Fahim (left) and Zayed (right) ran our first hot-pressing experiment on aluminum-based powders today.
