Lei Research Group at the University of Alabama (UA) aims to improve materials performance and sustainability for structural and functional applications by understanding and engineering nanoscale defects. Our research integrates materials processing, microstructural characterization, and mechanical testing across multiple length scales. 

We currently have fully funded Ph.D. positions starting in Sep. 2026 or Jan. 2027. These positions will focus on advanced microstructural characterization and small-scale mechanical testing.
