Research work focuses on different machine learning based intelligent systems, which are robust and applicable to wide variety of problem domains. These models depict their potential to be used in real world applications.
Parallel soft computing models based on type-2 neuro-fuzzy systems have been developed. Further, these models have been investigated on several benchmark applications to prove their optimality, robustness and their capability to handle uncertainty effectively. Three novel type-2 neuro-fuzzy models, based on subsethood and mutual subsethood composition, have been developed.
In this work, type-2 fuzzy sets (T2FS) with symmetric Gaussian membership functions have been integrated with neuro-fuzzy systems. The description of individual models accompanies the necessary mathematical details underlying their operations. It has been shown that the proposed models have the universal function approximation property. Evolutionary and memetic learning is incorporated into these models to perform better search on complex, vast, multimodal and non-differentiable solution space.
These models have been implemented on parallel platform using LAM/MPI library. The performance of these models is compared with existing models of both type-1 and type-2 neuro-fuzzy systems. Performance of these models is tested on applications domains such as classification, function Approximation, time series prediction and control.
As a specialist in Machine learning, Dr. Sumati worked as principal consultant for a start-up technology firm in Hyderabad city where she developed predictive analytical solutions for one of India’s premier eye research institute & hospital located in Hyderabad city. Dr Sumati & her research team developed an innovative knowledge bot to train & mentor junior doctors at primary healthcare centres in rural territories to connect with their city counterparts. This work also involved in developing prediction model for the number of footfalls in the hospital every day, thus solving one of the most critical problems of healthcare i.e, resource optimization.

What?
Pursuing Masters in Physics with specialization in Electronics, she focused on Solid state physics, semiconductor devices, microprocessors, VLSI design, computational methods, neural networks and computer programming. After experimenting with areas of research in Physics and electronics, she found her true calling in the field of Neural networks where she got fascinated by the machines emulating Human brain. This led her to delve deeper into the realms of Machine learning & its applications one of the most critical medical research areas of Cancer data sets, their classification using feature selection. This resulted in obtaining her M.Phil degree.

What?
As an avid researcher, Dr. Sumati’s philosophical work kindled further thought process on taking the feature selection process to its logical next step by introducing Interval Type 2 Fuzzy systems and integrating them with neural networks and evolutionary computations. Her focus was on the theoretical and empirical aspects of integrating interval type-2 fuzzy sets, neural networks, evolutionary computing and parallel computing. This helped in solving problems of control classification, regression and time series forecasting to name a few. This research work culminated into obtaining her PhD.
Her PhD work resulted in the publication of high impact research papers published in IEEE Transactions, Elsevier and Springer journals & conferences. Check it out Here.
