A ~six-year of research at NIOZ on the culturing and ecophysiological analyses of novel piezotolerant anaerobes from deep sulfidic waters (2000 m) of the Black Sea has been published in Microbiome journal. This groundbreaking research uncovers the ecophysiology of novel microbial taxa affiliated with nine bacterial phyla, revealing their specialized roles, (adaptation, distribution and lipids too!) in organic matter degradation under extreme conditions.
