Fabrication of MAO-DCPD Biocompatible Coatings on Mg-3Zn-0.2Ca-0.7Mn Alloy for Biomedical Applications (2018-2021)

Biocompatible MAO-DCPD coating was developed on Mg-3Zn-0.2Ca-0.7Mn surfaces with Ca(NO3)2.4H2O, Na3PO4.12H2O and NaOH by varying the Ca ion concentrations.

Fabrication of Brushite Coating on AZ91D, AZ31, AZX310 and AM50 Alloys by Two-Step Chemical Treatment and Its Surface Protection in Simulated Body Fluid (2017-2018) 

Biocompatible dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) brushite coating of flake-like crystals was developed on AZ91D and AZ31 magnesium (Mg) surfaces with Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and KH2PO4 in addition to heat treatment.

Surface Treatment on the Bioactivity and Electrochemical behavior of Magnesium alloys in Simulated Body Fluid (2015-2016) 

Effect of surface treatment using NaOH or H2O2 on the bioactivity and corrosion behavior of AZX310, AZ91D, AM50 and AZ31 Mg alloys in simulated body fluid (SBF) has been studied with the aid of surface morphological assessment, in vitro characterization, and electrochemical measurements.

Experimental and theoretical studies on some alkyl imidazolium ionic liquids with different cations/anions as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in acidic medium (2013-2014)

Inhibition of mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl solution by some alkylimidazolium-based ionic liquids was investigated using electrochemical, spectroscopic, surface morphology, quantum chemical calculations, quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) and Monte Carlo simulation methods.

In Vitro Bioactivity and Electrochemical Characterization of Surface Modified Titanium and its Alloys for Biomedical Applications - Ph.D Thesis (2008-2012) 

Commercially pure Ti, Ti-15Mo, Ti-5Al-2Nb-1Ta specimens were subjected to alkali-hydrogen peroxide and subsequent heat treatment to produce a nanoporous titanate gel layer with anatase phase. The surface morphology of the untreated, alkali-hydrogen peroxide treated and alkali-hydrogen peroxide heat treated specimens before and after 7 days of immersion in simulated body fluid was characterized using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Potentiodynamic Polarisation (PDP) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopic (EIS) studies.

Effect of Acid Treatment on the Surface Modification of Titanium alloys and Its Electrochemical Investigations in Simulated Body Fluid - CSIR SRF (2011-2012)

Ti, Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6Al-7Nb and Ti-5Al-2Nb-1Ta specimens were subjected to two-step chemical treatments by mixture of acids (HCl-H2SO4) followed by alkali (NaOH) and heat treatment to produce a porous anatase gel layer which enhances the osseointegration. Further the surface specimens in simulated body fluid were characterized using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Potentiodynamic Polarisation (PDP) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopic (EIS) studies.

Thermodynamics and Kinetics of High Temperature Gaseous Corrosion for Power Plant Materials - Research Intern (2006-2007)

High temperature corrosion studies of power plant steels were carried out using Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and its kinetics rate and thermodynamic modelling simulation were studied.

Synthesis and Characterization of Mechanically Alloyed Ni-Fe-Cr powders as Magnetic Materials - M.Sc. Thesis (2004-2005)

Mechanical Alloying technique were used which involves milling of powders in a desired weight ratio in an inert atmosphere, during which repeated welding, fracturing and rewelding of powder results in a homogenous mixture of powders with very fine structure. The mechanically alloyed and sintered Ni-Fe-Cr powder samples were analyzed by XRD, Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Mitutoyo Microhardness Tester and Vibration Sample Magnetometer for hardness and magnetic measurements.

Laser Processing and Cutting of Materials - B.Sc. Thesis (2002-2003)- (Best Thesis Award)

316L and 304 type austenitic stainless steels were processed using Nd:YAG green lasers to perform the cutting operation. After laser cutting, the steel specimens were characterized using XRD, Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Mitutoyo Microhardness Tester for hardness and grain size measurements.
