Brief Bio-Data
Dr. Madhumita Paul is an Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. Her research focuses on data-driven road safety analysis, sensor-based driver behaviour modelling, and AI-enabled traffic systems, with applications in mixed traffic conditions in India.Â
She has expertise in traffic conflict analysis, trajectory-based safety assessment, and predictive risk modelling, integrating UAV/drone data, instrumented vehicles, and simulation tools. Her recent work extends to AI-based real-time safety-critical events' studies, IoT devices for Motorized Two-wheelers, pedestrians and junction safety improvement, real-time driving monitoring systems, EV mobility, and digital safety frameworks for proactive crash prevention.
Dr. Paul completed her PhD from IIT Roorkee in 2020, where she developed several surrogate safety indices to assess crash probability and severity at intersections under heterogeneous traffic. Her research outcomes have contributed to real-world safety interventions, with recommendations implemented on intercity highways of NCR and urban intersections in Delhi.
Prior to joining IIT Kharagpur in 2022, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at IIT Bombay. She actively collaborates with academia and industry to develop scalable, data-driven solutions for road safety, smart mobility and EV mobility under the Indian traffic mix.
