Enabling Better Decisions
The OptimDSS Research Lab is dedicated to advancing research and innovation at the intersection of optimization techniques, uncertainty modeling, and decision support systems. The lab’s core mission is to develop rigorous, high-impact methodologies that help organizations make robust, transparent, and data-informed decisions even when real-world information is incomplete, ambiguous, or rapidly changing.
At OptimDSS, researchers work on the design and analysis of next-generation optimization algorithms, combining classical foundations in mathematical programming (linear, nonlinear, integer, multi-objective, and network optimization) with modern computational paradigms such as metaheuristics, simulation - optimization, decomposition methods, and AI-assisted decision analytics. A key strength of the lab is its emphasis on uncertainty-aware modelling, where decision problems are formulated and solved using advanced theories including stochastic models, fuzzy sets, rough sets, interval/possibilistic frameworks, and hybrid uncertainty structures that reflect the complexity of real operational environments.
The lab is designed to foster strong interdisciplinary collaboration among experts and learners from operations research, computer science, statistics, engineering, and decision sciences. Through collaborative projects, joint publications, seminars, and practical case engagements, OptimDSS encourages the exchange of ideas between theoretical development and real-world implementation. This collaborative culture supports both fundamental research (new models, proofs, and computational strategies) and applied research (deployable tools, prototypes, and decision dashboards).
OptimDSS maintains an application-driven focus, where methodological advances are validated through meaningful societal and industrial problems. The research team explores decision support applications across supply chain and logistics systems, sustainable and resilient operations, finance and risk analytics, healthcare planning and resource allocation, and public-sector decision-making. Typical problem domains include facility location and network design, vehicle routing and last-mile delivery, inventory and procurement under disruption risks, humanitarian logistics, scheduling and capacity planning, and multi-criteria evaluation under uncertain judgments.
Positioned as a contemporary research hub, the OptimDSS Research Lab thrusts forward optimization methodologies that are not only mathematically sound but also computationally efficient, explainable, and implementable. By combining rigorous theory with practical relevance, the lab aims to deliver decision support solutions that confront uncertainty in diverse domains - supporting better outcomes in efficiency, sustainability, resilience, and overall system performance.
