Brief Introduction
Dr Mrinal Bhowmik works towards achieving affordable and clean energy. Currently, Dr. Bhowmik serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Manipur. Dr Bhowmik completed B.Tech from TU and M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Agartala. After earning his PhD from IIT Guwahati, India (QS: 344 [2025]), Dr Bhowmik did post-doc at Waseda University, Japan (QS: 181 [2025]) and also served as an Assistant Professor at Waseda University, Japan (QS: 181 [2025]). Earlier, Dr Bhowmik served as a faculty member at NIT Warangal in Mechanical Engineering department. He has also visited Tsinghua University, China (QS: 17 [2024]) as a resource speaker. Prior to joining NIT Manipur, Dr. Bhowmik joined the Department of Engineering at Durham University, United Kingdom (QS Ranking: 78 [2024]), where he contributed to research on affordable and clean energy. Dr Bhowmik has over four years of post-PhD research, and teaching experience at internationally renowned universities, with more than 19 articles published in high-impact international SCI journals. Dr Bhowmik also has industry training experience from ONGC, PWD and DLR (Germany). Dr Bhowmik has also worked on several industry-oriented and internationally funded projects, including collaborations with Crystal Salad Ltd., UKCCSRC, and other industrial partners, where he contributed to the development and delivery of products and software tools to the funding agencies and stakeholders. He has also visited more than 15 international universities, including University College London (UCL), the University of Oxford, Newcastle University, Northumbria University, London South Bank University, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Sunderland, and the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on thermal systems, heat and mass transfer processes, carbon capture and storage, industrial waste heat recovery, and energy-efficient air conditioning systems, with a particular interest in reducing energy demands and improving sustainability.
